#1 | | Fab guy in training | YJ full width build. We call it froggy. | | Well considering Im in the middle of a fire sale with most of the parts from my now abandoned YJ build up. I figure I will update what Im keeping and where its going. So onto the build.
We bought my wife her YJ shortly after we moved to Savannah, Ga. in 06. It was stock with 2.5L and all that goes along with it. Got it cheap cause the engine rattled. Trailered it home with plans of rebuilding the motor and calling it good enough. Well my loving wife just had to drive it once first. She wanted to drive it the mile down to the car wash and back to make sure it was clean before tearing it appart. Well just before she got there she heard a loud bang and had no power. She looked under it and there was oil everywhere. You all know what happened. She finished off the motor. Broke 1 Rod, blew a 3 inch diameter hole in the side of the block, bent a push rod, and put 3 small holes in the oil pan. We got it back and so began build stage 1. We added a 4 inch Rough Country lift. Brown Dog 1 inch motor mount lift. A set of 33 inch mud tires with a 1 inch spacer. Picked up a good used 2.5 from a member here. Cant remember the screen name but major props to him for helping me out. Got it all together and running and the wife was happy for a while. She decided she didnt like the stock front fenders so we worked with Crazy4ink at Mountain Valley Customs on a set of tube fenders with a 3 inch flare. Picked up a set of TJ rear flares. Added led tail lights and she decided she was tired of having a red Jeep. So in true red neck fasion we rattle canned it Cayman Green. We did take our time and prepped most all the parts painted and clear coated it. Turned out better than I thought it would but hey it was her Jeep. Its gone slowly since then. About 3 months ago we kinda got the bug to build on it again. We added a KOZ offroad front cage kit, replaced the stock seats for an aftermarket set we got in another jeep we bought, replaced the old 5 on 5.5 rims for a new 5 on 4.5 set. Just a month ago we swapped out the 33's for a set of 35 inch ProComp All terrains. With the new baby and the possibility of moving to Texas and having way too many project vehicles to work on we decided to call it our Jeep not hers and down size the project stable(for now).
So now for the additions.
HD HP Ford Dana 44 front with detriot locker
3/4 Ton Dana 60 rear with spool
5.38 gears
AX-15 swap
NP-231 with 2low and SYE with CV shaft
SOA with stock YJ springs
BTF full width kit up front
Hunsaker full suspension seats
Hydro assist steering
39.5 inch Iroks on 17 inch rims
rear disk brake swap.
Thats it for now. There will be more later. Im sure the 2.5 will hate us for a while but I want to keep it as close to driveable as I can. I think thats what helped kill my other one. Too much to do and not enough time.
Sorry for the long rant. I will post pics as I make progress. Attached are some pics of the Jeep in its stages and the engine carnage.

#3 | | Fab guy in training | Got the Axles swapped in over the past 2 days. Made a crude jig out of wood to make sure my rear spring perches were centered propperly. Worked out well. I think the pinion angle is just about spot on. Stripped the front of the frame to make way for the BTF full width kit. That went on fairly well. Now I need to get the spool and gears into the rear 60 and order gears for the front 44. Make or buy shock hoops and long travel shocks. Finish disk break swap on rear end. Plumb line locks into both ends. Replace steering gear box with one drilled and tapped for hydro assist. Build tie rod and drag link. Hook up hydro assist. Then comes the issue of the tranny swap. I dont want to pay to rework my drive shafts twice so Im waiting till after the tranny is swapped. Here are a few more pics.

I need to add the Dana 30 front and Dana 35 rear with factory 4.10 gears. As well as a set of 4 Procomp All-Terrains 35X12.5R15 on near new black rock crawler rims. Would say at least 90% tread left. After market front seats with brackets. 4 inch lift springs. And a very good steering gear box. Thats the stuff I can think of now. Man its a free for all for anyone who wants to look around. Some of it is at storage now just to make room.

Any plans for the cage? | For now the cage is good for the front of the Jeep. I need to add some bars into it for the back to protect the children when they ride with us but Im a real big fan of emptying the Jeep when I try something that could land me on my lid. So it will be for those surprise situations that just go all wrong.
Things are coming together well. Got the new brackets for the disk brake swap wed as well as a couple other small parts. Going to try to get that done this weekend.
Got told by the Army that I have to move to Texas and I have to be there the 1st or so of August so its going to be minimal stuff on the Jeep for a few months. I'll get back into it once I resettle in TX.

#7 | | Fab guy in training | Well, in light of the move to Texas I pushed on with the Jeep. It has now moved out side and gone on a few road runs. I still have stuff to clean up but its driveable. I swapped in the steering gearbox thats drilled and tapped but capped the ports for now so I can work any issues out before adding the ram. Only set up the gears for the rear. I dont need it to be 4x4 right now. I will set up the front when I get to Texas. I left the rear driveshaft alone. It might be a bit long but I still have a small amount of travel on the slip shaft. After I get to Texas I'll purchase the Box 4 Rocks doubler and get the drive shaft cut to the right length. 2 of the rims have the lugs wallowed out but I do have the rims to replace them. I am going to try to do that today I think. Other than that, not much else. On to the pics of it out of the garage.

#9 | | Fab guy in training | Used to live in Savannah, Ga. Not too many places closer than a few hours drive. Unless you can get on private land. Really kind of sucks if you ask me.
