Didn't we just go through this with someone else a month or so ago?
Have you checked your cables? A badly corroded, broken or cracked battery cable will cause the starter to not act correctly. How did you hook up the jumper cables? Did you put them on the battery connectors? That's very dangerous and should never be done unless you have a dry cell battery. If you hooked the negative to the engine block and the positive to the starter end and it still didn't start, then I would believe it's a bad starter. If it starts that way, it's a bad cable, most likely positive. If you hooked the negative to part of the body or frame rail, then it could be a bad ground cable somewhere. I'd investigate the cables before shelling out money for a starter.
