Default 4.0L to 4.2L

so my 4.0L blew the head gasket. rather than tearing it all down, im going to get another 4.0L to put in. this gives me a complete 4.0L extra. my question is this: If i get a 4.2L top end, will it mount straight up to my 4.0L block? if not, what will i have to do to make it work?

i'm kinda confused. why go through all the work of replacing the motor. a head gasket on the 4.0L takes maybe 3 hours max. second, why in the world would you put a 4.2L head on a 4.0 block. most people take the 4.0L head and put it on the 4.2L block.
