Hey guys,

I'm thinking about doing a engine swap. I needs some ideas about what engine would go great on my Auto "94 YJ. I was thinking about getting a ' 94 corvett engine for it. What do you think about it?

An LT1 is a very popular swap. Make sure your axles can handle the HP and torque and figure out what tcase to use. You can maintain the factory harness and eliminate unneeded items on it or go aftermarket for a more easy, yet expensive route. Also understand what it will take to get it going like eliminating or bipassing the VATS. If you have emissions and any other motor swap type laws you will need the EGR hooked up.

Has anyone rebulid their stock engine? I have a 4 banger, and trying to get some ideas on what to do. Should I rebuild, or swap it out?

I like the 4 popper all right. It isn't the powerhouse that the 4.0 is, but it is durable, reliable, and it's torque power band is in the lower RPM range. Easy to work on, cheap parts, etc.

-There are tons of stuff to consider.
-The type of aspiration you want on the motor. Carb, TBI, TPI etc.
-Cooling. Aluminum 2 core radiator vs a 4 or 3 core brass. Electric or mechanical fan (room may be an issue).
-Transmission working with the motor (K or 90* block) and ability to mate it to the transfer case. On new models the transmission is computer controlled.
-Wiring harnesses has to be integrated into the existing ignition switches etc (not to bad).
-Fuel pumps and fuel lines. You have to adapts some lines to the fuel rail on a TPI or the fittings on a TBI.
-Exhaust routing will need to be reworked and looked at when you decide on the motor mounts as well as manifolds and/or headers.
-The crossmember may not work with the new transmission and t-case.
-Driveshaft lengths will vary.
-Axle types and strength.

That is what I'm talking about. I don't know what to get to make this happen. I need to get an idea how much total it will cost me. My stock engine has seen better days. Its needs to retire. everything under the is still stock except the driveshafts (SYE), and the sup. lift. I really don't want to chane out my axle, because I don't really off-road that much. Help me, what should i done before ordering these things?

First determine what motor your going for. After that all the other peices will fall into place.
Whatever donor vehicle you take the motor from make sure you get the ECM, wiring harness and tranny.
There are different style ECM's that come with vehicles. Some are weatherproof and some ECM's chips control an automatic tranny like the LT1's 4L60E auto.
Retaining the stock harness can be simple if you know what wires go where. Aftermarket harnesses are labeled to make it easier (I find nothing easy about Painless crap). Some places will take the stock harness and eliminate the wires you don't need and label it for you.
For the 4L60E most are 2WD's and you must convert the mainshaft to a shorter 4WD version as well as remove the output cone. A stock crossmember probably won't work due to the varying lengths of the tranny.
Also consider the stock fuel pump won't work. LT1's use a lot higher pressure system. Most people use the E2000 inline pump. You may also need to run different fuel lines so you can get the lines to mate with the fuel rail.

I'm looking at a 1994 Firebird Camaro LT1 with an Auto trans. It comes with all the belts accessories, a/c pump, p/s pump, the alternator, wiring harness, and the ECM for a great price. Is that that a good start. Should I look for a transfer case better than the Np231?

You can use a Chevy S10 Pickup or Blazer NP231-C along with the adapter. That should save you some big bucks over AA's adapters. The input gear will be 27 spline which is what most 700R4's and 4L60E's are. You will still need to get a shorter shaft for the tranny. It has the larger sprockets and chain. Just throw in your HD SYE. I have run mine hard for about a year on my TPI and 42's and my buddy runs his along with his LS1 YJ and 44" boggers. That sounds like a good start to me.

I was looking at AA adapters for the 4l60e. $510.00 for the kit. I think that it is a good price compare than buying a different transfer case.
Thank man, You have help me alot. Now I'm claim. I hope that this project goes well.

I picked up a transfer case at a Pick N Pull for $100 with the adapter.
