#1 | | Old Blue | Engine stalls when tranny clutched | | I've had a problem for about a year or so...ever since I replaced my clutch...that sometimes when I clutch the tranny when making a stop, my engine will die.
It hasn't happened in a while, but I just finished rebuilding my engine week before last, and today I started having that problem again and decieded enough is enough.
From what I've seen so far, its probably the CPS (Crankshaft Positioning Sensor) or the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). I'm actually leaning towards the VSS. One of the times the engine died today the check engine light popped on and the engine code showed:
14: MAP sensor voltage too low or too high.
15: A problem with the VSS signal. No distance/speed sensor signal detected during road load conditions.
Hell I suppose it could be the MAP but I'm kind of doubting it.
Any other ideas you guys might have??

View My Jeep Specs | | | | No VSS will make it run like poo, and possibly stall? i dunno for sure on the stall thing. But if you can restart the engine after it stalls, my guess is the CPS. mine did the same thing. After it stalled there was no spark at the plugs or coil. So i replaced everything and no change, then a new CPS and voila, no stalls. Mine was stalling at idle in traffic constantly.

#3 | | Old Blue | yea it only stalls when I clutch it, and It will fire back up...then stall again...lol So if its the CPS...maybe it just hasn't died completely.
I'll replace the CPS first since that should be really easy if its were I think it is, been a while since I looked. I'll probably just end up replacing both

#4 | | Weekend Wheeler | The CPS will do that when it's starting to short. It's pretty easy to replace, I think it's two bolts on the side of the bellhousing and one wire connector. Should only be a 30 or so minute job. |

View My Jeep Specs | | | | its odd really, everyone says its 2 bolts, but mine was 1 bolt. The new CPS only used 1 bolt too as did the old. Mine is a 95 4.0L with the auto. Is it just the manuals with the 2 bolts?
