Default engine swap

I have an 89 wrangler 4.2l with 252k on it. I have the opportunity to get an 89 olds cutlass supreme engine withh 55k on it for free. will the engine fit or will all the mods not make it worth it.
thanks for help

Is it the 305/350 or is it a 6 cylinder? The V8 won't be hard but will need a decent amount of stuff changed around, as for the 6 cylinder, I wouldn't do it.

yes it is the six. I only use my jeep for getting around in the city. dont take it off road. Is it too hard or inyour opinion not feasible. my jeep is not ruuning to good and wanted a way to make it a lil more reliable.
thanks for the help

IMO if you're gonna swap in a 6 cylinder might as well be the straight 6 that is in other jeeps... bolt in and super reliable

no offense or anything but I wouldn't swap in that V-6(3.8L?) in whether I was wheeling or not. I would rather rebuild the 4.2 with a 4.0 head and a new carb or a fuel injection system. Better yet, put in the 4.0L. When I think of the Buick/GM/Olds/ V-6, it brings back memories of vacuum line problems, grenading valve assemblies, lifter tap, spun bearings, and bad mileage. Hell, I would even swap in a 22RE Toyota or a 2.5L Jeep before I would go with that motor. No offense, just my humble opinion

Another thing to consider Jaysky are the laws of your state regarding emissions. That piss-poor 3800 wouldn't pass emissions for your Jeep.

Do you have to have annual inspections in your state - especially for your Jeep?

If not, then look into a 5.0L Chevy V8 with fuel injection. A much nicer engine and more torque, and not too much HP. JMO

Cheap reman'd engines- www.unitedengine.net
Or you could swap in a 4.0L fuel injected, which would be a little more expensive,
Or you could swap in a V8, a little more expensive and probably overkill for your use.
The 3.8 would be difficult to do, and thats why I said I wouldn't do it. I'm not sure about the engine mounts, tranny, wiring, etc, plus its a car engine that may have a bad torque curve for your Jeep. Easiest route would be the reman'd engine, then the 4.0 and would suit your needs just fine. Good luck on your choice.

Howell Fuel Injection System solves all of your woes with much less hassle than an engine swap.
